Happy New Year, from disaster.guide

Greetings! We here at disaster.guide, like many of you reading this, have spent some time during this final week of 2021 reflecting upon the events that shaped our lives this year, and the goals which we were able to reach during our 6-month startup period – along with some goals we hope to accomplish in 2022.

In accordance with looking forward toward future goals, we have put together our first blog post – a practice we hope to continue regularly in the coming year, with content which we hope will help serve you to better prepare for disasters and disaster outcomes of all kinds.

In addition to beginning and maintaining regular blog posts, we also hope to play a bit of “catch-up” with goals which we found ourselves unable to fully achieve – partly because of setbacks we experienced as residents of south Louisiana following Hurricane Ida. Like many have done this year and in years prior, we are dusting ourselves off and forgiving ourselves of some of those setbacks, while looking forward toward what we can accomplish.

Below is a list of some of the startup goals we achieved, and goals we will carry into 2022, along with a few new goals we feel will aid our mission to provide a variety of preparedness tools to the public …

This year, we were able to:

  • Establish a Facebook page with a following of more than 4,000 people, offering info on severe weather conditions, preparedness supplies, and preparedness practices – If you already like our page, Thank You! for being a part of that. If you wish to like or follow our page, you can do so here.
  • Build a website with a “Current Conditions” component covering local conditions in approximately 100 counties along the U.S. Gulf Coast and Southeast Atlantic Gulf Coast. You can navigate/browse local conditions for those counties, here.
  • Research, acquire, and personally review power outage and preparedness products – You can “Build Your Own” bundle of products, here.

What we strive to achieve in the New Year:

  • Continue development of our website, to expand our geographic cover of local conditions, and to add features such as personalized preparedness tool.
  • Conduct further research to expand our preparedness product offerings, and to come closer to our mission to offer affordable, quality products to the public [Let us know what products you’d like to have offered, here]
  • To start and maintain a blog offering preparedness info & tips, and outlooks on topics such as severe weather, and other hazards [this is our first entry!]
  • To create a database of preparedness papers (articles, pamphlets, etc.) that users can search to locate information that is helpful.
  • And, finally – but, certainly not low on our list of importance – to remain positive in our times and during times to come, and to forgive ourselves of setbacks while continuing to build what we believe in.

How can you help?

  • Tell us about products or services you’d like to see offered by disaster.guide [here]
  • Share our Facebook page with your friends or share this blog/post with a message to follow our page 🙂
  • Purchase a preparedness supply bundle (“Build-A-Kit”) from our Supply Shop… Or, donate to help us fund our future efforts: donate here.
  • Stay positive, healthy, and well in the New Year – we promise to try to do the same! And we hope to be able to offer guidance in our shared journey through 2022.

All the Best!
– The disaster.guide Team
